Drawing Yourself

Art therapy without the therapy: The challenge was for the J-Rex to completely color in a chalk outline of herself by "drawing what [she] feel[s]."

For an adult, this is a relatively simple task. For the J-Rex, however, it was hard to understand the concept of drawing her feelings.  We talked a bit about what emotions she was feeling at the time, "happiness," and then I sat near her and let her see where her imagination took her...

At first, she kept asking if it was ok to use only one color or if she was allowed to draw a diamond, etc.  Each time, I said, "Whatever you feel, honey," and, eventually, she stopped asking and started drawing.

She gave me a "tour" of her creation and what she came up with told me a lot more than I would have expected about who she is at this point in her life:

Her mind is filled with sunshine, she has a smile in her heart, and in one hand she holds her ideas while she holds her dreams in the other.
Child of mine, may the world appreciate the beauty you bring to it.
